Ingliston May 2012
A cold but bright morning at Ingliston turned into a grand sunny day that left some of us burnt and peeling for the rest of the week.
The 2011 winners Ricky Wheeler and Robin Laird started at 1, but retired after one stage with engine problems in the Escort Mk2 Warrior.
Bruce Edwards/Jim Smith set fastest time on the the first stage in the Darrian Honda, with Alan Gardiner / Robin Nicholson three seconds behind in the Escort Mk 1, followed by Paul Swift then two GMSC drivers, Tom Morris and Ross Fernie.
Then Edwards and Gardiner tied for fastest on stage 2.
The GMSC crew Ross Fernie/John Young had a slow start, 15 seconds down on SS1, then 14 seconds on SS2, but got their act together and set fastest time on stage 3, and again on SS8, but Bruce held on to the lead.
At the end it was Edwards/Smith by 32 seconds from Gardiner/Nicholson with Fernie/Young another 8 seconds behind in third overall and first class five in the Subaru Impreza STI, and Tom Morris/Colin Harkness fourth in the immaculate new Escort MkII.

Recovered from a slow start then set two fastest and two second fastest stages times on the way to 3rd overall

Good clean run in the new Escort

Hindered by a low seeding, finished 18th overall in the home-developed Audi.

Another creditable result for the lads, after finishing 17th on their first stage rally, the 2011 Kingdom.
The Junior rally was the second round of the Junior 1000 Ecosse Challenge for drivers aged 14-17 with experienced co-drivers in mechanically standard 1000cc cars
Alexander Vassallo and Janice Moore won in a Citroen C1. Alexander has a bit more experience than the rest of the field, and also won the first round at Charterhall in March, but the chasing pack were a bit closer this time.
Three GMSC drivers entered.

Georgia got visibly quicker during the day, maybe growing more confident after sticking it in the fence at Charterhall, survived a bruising encounter with a bale on the way to finishing 7th.

Finished 8th.

No times for the first two stages, so not classified as a finisher.
